I almost never captured this really cool photo.
I don’t think anyone is going to say that it’s the world’s best photo. But for me, someone whose getting more into photography, it’s pretty awesome.
Not only is the photo awesome, but I had a lot of fun taking it. In fact, it’s probably the best evening I’ve had by myself in a very, very long time.
And it was so close to not happening.
You see, I came home this night, was tired, and thinking that I’d just flip on the TV, watch some sports, and spend a chill evening at home. Sounds pretty good, right?
The problem is that we always seem to default to TV when we’re tired.
But rarely after a couple hours of watching TV do I actually feel rested – much less energized.
Fortunately for me, I pushed past the temptation to just hole up on the couch for an evening, and instead, I decided to grab my camera and wander around the park to see if I could do something I hadn’t done before.
But what I discovered as I was out there on a cool October evening that the process of creating something – and not just consuming someone else’s creation – is so life-giving. I’d say it’s actually why we’re here.
When you start creating, something magical happens. You get filled with energy.
After I got home, saw what I had captured, I was jazzed. Like really, really pumped.
And not just for an hour or two like after Bautista’s homer and subsequent crazy bat flip in game 5 of the ALDS.
It’s now been 10 days and I still get a charge every time I look at this photo.
Again, it’s not just about the quality of it. It’s simply because I actually made something!
So I encourage you. Whatever it is that you like to do, find some time and do it!
We often don’t feel like it. We’re too tired. We just need to chill.
It’s way, way easier to just put some sweats on and flip on the TV.
But you’re never going to get life out of that.
I promise you if you just push through your tiredness and choose to do something you’re passionate about, life will flow and you’ll have a whole lotta’ fun.
And you’ll feel way more energized.
